The site is located to the south-east of Shrewsbury, partly fronting Preston Street which lies to the north of the site, with Shrewsbury College, located off London Road, situated along the western edge of the site. The land covers an area of approximately 37 hectares (91 acres).
As joint landowners, Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes have prepared a planning application for up to 600 homes, with a varied range of housetypes, including a proportion of affordable homes.
The application is being submitted partly in outline and partly in full, meaning that matters such as the appearance, layout, scale of building and the landscaping of the site are to be the subject of subsequent reserved matters approval for part of the site. The initial first phase of the development is being designed in full detail within the application, including detailed proposed site layout plans, floor plans and elevations of new housing. Details of the access to the development is also being provided in full detail.
Shropshire Council’s Core Strategy, adopted in February 2011, states that around 6,500 new dwellings need to be built in Shrewsbury by 2026, and this land has been allocated for up to 600 new homes in the council’s adopted Site Allocations and Management of Development (SAMDev) Plan.
The location of the proposed development is outlined in red.
